چکیده

A total of 167 individuals was studied which included 85 men and 82 women ranging in age from 20 to 59 years. The criteria for normalcy were based on the following requirements: 1) no history of cardiopulmonary disease, 2) normal chest x-ray film within six months. The total vital capacity was measured with a 6-liter Vitalometer having a 70centimeter noncorrugated rubber tube with an internal diameter of 2.0 centimeters, and the maximum breathing capacity was measured with a Collins 13.5-liter respirometer having a double 92-centimeter noncorrugated tube with an internal diameter of 3.3 centimeters. All of the individuals studied were either house staff or employees of the hospital or patients who were ambulatory. The flow rate was determined on a 6-liter Collins Vitalometer with a direct writing pen inscribing on a Gorell and Gorell monodrum rotating

Peak Expiratory Flow Rate in Healthy Children from Tehran

Background: Measuring peak expiratory flow rate has been suggested as an important tool in asthma management by all international guidelines.  Objective: Studies on various populations have shown considerable variations in normal values of peak expiratory flow rate. Since reference standards for Iranian children are not available, the present study was performed to establish these standards. Me...

Normal measurement of peak expiratory Flow rate in the high school children in Babol, north of Iran

Background: Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) is recommended as a tool for control of asthma. The purpose of this study was to determine the normal value of PEFR in the healthy high school children in Babol, Iran. Methods: This study was conducted on 470 healthy high school children (285 girls, 185 boys with the age between 14-18 years). For the determination of PEFR we used Mini Wright Peak Flo...

Smooth muscle dynamics and maximal expiratory flow in asthma.

A computational model for maximal expiratory flow in constricted lungs is presented. The model was constructed by combining a previous computational model for maximal expiratory flow in normal lungs and a previous mathematical model for smooth muscle dynamics. Maximal expiratory flow-volume curves were computed for different levels of smooth muscle activation. The computed maximal expiratory fl...

Constancy of Effort and Variability of CHEST , 76 : 1 , JULY , 1979 CONSTANCY OF EFFORT AND VARIABILITY OF MEFR 59 Maximal Expiratory Flow Rates *

In 14 normal subjects and in 13 patients with obstructive pulmonary diseases, we studied the variability within an individual of values for the maximal expiratory flow rate (‘Vmnx) recorded simultaneously vs expired pulmonary volume (at the mouth) and vs thoracic volume (measured with a body plethysmograph). We found that the variance of lmax within an individual at 25, 50, and 75 percent of th...

COMPARISON OF THE BRONCHODIL ATORY EFFECTS OF INHALED SALBUTAMOLAND COMBIVEN T IN ASTHMATIC PATIENTS

A randomized, double-blind, crossover trial was designed to compare the acute effects of Combivent and salbutamol on spirometric parameters in patients with moderate to severe asthma. Nineteen patients with a mean baseline forced expiratory volume in 1 sec. (FEV]) less than 65% predicted, were randomized on two separate days to receive two puffs of salbutamol (200 µg) or two puffs of Combiv...
